Wasaga Beach twins Josh and Jake Burella battled the elements on Georgian Bay as they swam 16-kilometres from the Beach 3 Area to the Grain Terminals at Collingwood’s Millennium Park, Sunday after training eight months. Sunday, they spent just over nine hours in the water, which was two hours more than they expected. Just after 3:30 pm Sunday, the brothers accomplished their goal as family and friends waited at the Grain Terminals for their arrival. The swim was designed to raise awareness for mental health. Collingwood and The Blue Mountains OPP would like to invite you to come help stuff a backpack with school supplies for at risk youth in the community. Auxiliary Members and Officers will be outside Wal-Mart at 10 Cambridge Street in Collingwood today (Tuesday, August 28th ) from 1 pm to 7 pm and Thursday, August 30th from 1 pm to 7 pm. Officers will be delivering the backpacks with supplies to the Collingwood and The Blue Mountains Elementary Schools the first day back to school. (Source:

The Municipality of Meaford’s 2018 second intake Community Grant application period closes Friday, August 31st.. The 2018 tax-supported budget includes money to support community partners providing programs, services, and events to the residents and visitors of the Municipality of Meaford. The four grant categories include civic events (such as Canada Day), festivals and fairs, community one-time projects, and community programs (limited to 20% of administrative costs). Applications will be evaluated based on demonstrated need, contributions to the community, promotion of the Municipality’s vision, values, and strategic priorities, good financial management and organizational ability and other partners, other sources of funding, support of volunteers. Forms are available at the Municipal Office at 21 Trowbridge Street West, or on the municipal website at New this year, Meaford Council has requested that all organizations applying for grants make a short presentation. And a reminder of work notices for Meaford… St. Vincent St. from Margaret St. to Marshall St. continues resurfacing today (August 28th). The 7th Line from Grey Road 12 to Highway 26 will be undergoing resurfacing, today (August 28th) and tomorrow (August 29th). And 10th Concession from Grey Road 18 to Superior St. will be undergoing resurfacing , today (August 28th) to September 25th. Houston rallied for an 11-4 win over Oakland.
Philadelphia lost to Washington 5-3.
The Los Angeles Angels dealt the Rockies their third loss in the last four games, winning 10-7.
San Francisco blanked Arizona 2-0.

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov is moving on at the U.S. Open after his compatriot Felix Auger-Aliassime was forced to retire in the third set of their first-round match on Monday. Earlier Monday, Milos Raonic advanced to the second round with a 7-6 (4), 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 victory over Argentine qualifier Carlos Berlocq.
