Wacky… But True, July 11th:

The California Lottery says 19-year-old Rosa Dominguez won $555,555 on a $5 scratch-off ticket bought at a gas station. A few days later, she bought another $5 scratch-off ticket at a different station and won $100,000. The Lottery says with Rosa’s $655,555 total winnings, she plans to go shopping and buy herself a new car.

A fight went down in Oklahoma City. Police say two men were in the living room of an apartment when they began arguing if Star Wars or Star Trek was better. The victim told police he became frustrated and , on walking back to his room, was alleged attacked when the other man followed him, shoved him to the ground then started choking the victim, who pulled out a pocket knife. The attacker left the room and police were called.

And a rare herd of dozens of ghostly white deer kept mostly from public view for decades is no longer off-limits. The herd at a former World War II army weapons depot on 7,000-acres in upstate New York (tough to see for years) will be available for year-round public viewing. The nonprofit Seneca White Deer bus tours are to begin in October under an agreement with the depot’s new owner. The white deer aren’t albinos but are a genetic variant of native white-tailed deer. They’re rare in the wild because their color makes them easy targets for predators and hunters, but a herd of as many as 200 developed over the years within the safety of the Army’s 24-mile-long perimeter fence.
