Vandalizing Election Signs An Indictable Offence… Thoughts From Yours Truly

Saddened to see on my drive home Friday a candidate’s sign vandalized as it sat beside an opposing candidate’s sign. A word to the wise from the OPP… an individual caught tampering with campaign signs would most likely be charged with mischief. By the way, mischief is both a summary and indictable offence. Depending on circumstances, that most likely police would usually lay the less serious summary charge. If convicted, an individual could face fines and be ordered to pay restitution. The maximum penalty is 18 months in prison.
Also on my drive home, a gentleman on 26 in an 80 kay zone close to being struck by me he crossed the road on his bicycle… and not looking either. The helmet he was wearing of course, a good idea, but I don’t think it does much when you’re hit by a car at highway speed. I think that was covered by Elmer the Safety Elephant… ‘look all ways before you cross the street’… and applies to adults too.
