HBO is nearing a pilot commitment for a prequel series based on the ‘Game of Thrones’ companion book ‘Fire & Blood’. The prospective pilot would be set 300 years before years before the events of the original series, exploring the beginning of the end for House Targaryen.

John Lithgow has joined the cast of the upcoming FX drama pilot ‘Old Man’ alongside previously announced lead Jeff Bridges. Based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Thomas Perry, the series centers on Dan Chase (Bridges), who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. Lithgow will play Harold Harper who’s called back to service by the FBI after suffering a terrible personal loss.
