The Town of Penetanguishene and Township of Georgian Bay are pleased to announce that the two municipalities will enter into a shared services agreement for Human Resources and Health and Safety for a two-year trial period until April 30, 2019.
The concept of shared service arrangements is listed as an opportunity for consideration in the 2014 Township of Georgian Bay Core Services Review Report. “This innovative partnership of alternate service delivery between two small communities aims to provide more efficient and cost-effective services,” said Georgian Bay CAO Laurie Kennard.
The Township of Georgian Bay currently operates with one Director of Human Resources and Health and Safety and the Town of Penetanguishene operates with one Human Resources Assistant within its Administrative Departments. The incumbent in the Human Resources Assistant position will retire at the end of April, 2017. “As with all organizational vacancies, opportunities present themselves,” said Penetanguishene Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Jeff Lees. Since the inception of the existing position in 2008, there have been many changes to legislation, including Employment
Standards and Occupational Health and Safety Act. The number of employees across the organization has increased and a new group of employees has certified with the union. “A continued focus will be placed on the occupational health and safety of our employees through this strategic partnership,”
The Director of Human Resources and Health and Safety will remain an employee of the Township of Georgian Bay and the Town of Penetanguishene will engage a new Human Resources Assistant. The total costs will be shared evenly. No changes to the overall staffing complement will be made for either organization as a result of this partnership.
