Southern Georgian Bay OPP were kept busy responding to calls for service and investigating vehicle collisions. Officers also conducted seven R.I.D.E. check stops throughout the detachment patrol area checking over 225 drivers and vehicles resulting in no drinking and driving investigations from these locations.
On October 8th, 2018 at 2:27 pm officers were alerted by the OPP Communications Centre after numerous calls from concerned motorists of a possible impaired driver on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township. Officers were able to locate and stop the suspect vehicle on Highway 12 in Tay Township. Upon speaking with the female driver a drinking and driving investigation was commenced by the officer resulting in Claudette SCHACHERL 57 years of Penetanguishene being charged with the following offences-
– Driving While Ability Impaired- motor vehicle (Alcohol)
– Care or Control Over 80 mgs
Her vehicle was seized for 7 days as was her drivers licence for 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and she will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Midland on October 25th, 2018.
On October 8th, 2018 at 3:03 p.m. an officer on patrol stopped a vehicle on First Street in the Town of Midland. The officer spoke with the male driver and entered into a drinking and driving investigation resulting in Matthew WHITE 23 years of Midland being charged with Driving with More than 80 mgs. of Alcohol in Blood.
His vehicle was seized for 7 days as was his drivers licence for 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) and he will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice Midland on November 1st, 2018.
Police remind motorists that an essential part of the enforcement job is to save lives and reduce injuries on our trails, roadways and waterways. Educating the public about safe driving practices is a priority.
