OPP Recover Body Of Missing Toronto Man On The Waters Of Georgian Bay

Police have recovered the body of a Toronto man who was reported missing last week near Trim Tree Island on Georgian Bay.

On October 6, 2017 at 1:20 p.m., West Parry Sound OPP received a report of missing person from the man’s family members. Investigation later revealed that a 53-year old man from Toronto was seen operating a pontoon boat near Trim Tree Island by family members. OPP Aviation Services and the West Parry Sound OPP Marine Unit, along with the Carling Fire Department, the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre and the Canadian Coast Guard commenced an initial search in the area where the pontoon boat was located.

On the afternoon of October 10, 2017, a body was recovered near Grave Island on the Waters of Georgian Bay. The body has been identified as Owen Sands, the man reported missing on Friday.

A post mortem examination is expected to take place at the Chief Coroner’s Office in Toronto.
