The Municipality of Meaford is pleased to welcome John deHooge as its new interim Fire Chief. Chief deHooge began Monday, November 5th for a 6 month interim position. He is replacing Scott Granahan, who is now Fire Chief at the Town of Mississippi Mills. Chief deHooge’s career as a firefighter spans over 35 years. He has previously been the Fire Chief at the City of Waterloo, City of Ottawa and most recently the Town of Halton Hills.

During the intermission of tonight’s Meaford Dragons’ Den (Wednesday, November 7th) that starts at 7:30 pm at Meaford Hall, a panel of experts will be assembled to discuss business growth in the dynamic Municipality. Norm Smith is an economist currently teaching face to face and online economics and business courses at Georgian College at the Barrie campus. Joel Loughead, Cider Maker, from Coffin Ridge will be sharing his insight on the state of the craft cider industry in Ontario and how its future impacts on Grey County in particular. Join in an exciting show that will celebrate the last successful 10 years for Meaford Dragons. Drop by the Georgian College Fall Open House, Saturday, Nov. 10th to learn about its programs and services, enter for a chance to win great prizes, try hands-on activities, and meet staff. The Open House runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Barrie Campus and from 9 a.m. to noon at all other campus locations. Attendees will receive a ballot for a chance to win the grand prize of up to $5,000 toward tuition at Georgian. Those who complete Georgian’s online Career Match quiz in advance – and bring their results with them – will get a second ballot for the draw. As well, Google Homes and Acer laptops will be given away – one of each at every campus location.
You’ll be able to take a student-led tour, experience college life through hands-on activities and sample classes, ask questions about clubs and varsity teams, learn about housing (*), financial aid, campus food options, the kind of skills you’ll gain in your programs and apply to college at the Open House as Georgian will cover the cost of the Ontario College Application Service (OCAS) application fee. Saturday, December 15th, the Meaford Public Library Fundraising Committee’s Christmas with Friends Gala fundraising event will feature cocktails and appetizers followed by a catered dinner, cash bar, and dancing at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre. Festivities begin at 6 pm with dinner served at 7 pm in support of the new, accessible Meaford Public Library. The cost: $80/person with a $40 tax receipt.
