The OPP is encouraging citizens to support the Lock It or Lose It campaign, used to remind everyone that leaving your vehicle unlocked may increase your chances of becoming a victim of theft. During the campaign, police officers and auxiliary members may examine parked vehicles in public places such as shopping malls and/or public parking lots and will place a small notice on the vehicle that has been checked to point out if safety precautions could have been taken and to offer simple prevention tips for the driver to protect the vehicle and its contents from theft.
Crime prevention tips:
Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key.
If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle.
Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
Never leave valuable objects or packages in full view. Put them in the trunk.
Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.

The Municipality of Meaford would like to hear what you think about Cannabis retail stores in the community. In the spring of 2019, the Province of Ontario plans to allow privately owned retail Cannabis stores, in addition to the online Ontario Cannabis Store. These stores will be supplied by the Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation only, and will be licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). There will be strict rules around storage, signage, and promotions. The Province has given each Municipality a one-time opportunity to decide whether or not to allow retail Cannabis outlets within their borders. If Council decides to ‘Opt Out’, then retail Cannabis outlets will not be permitted in the Municipality of Meaford. The Province requires a decision by January 22nd, 2019. The Municipality of Meaford would like to know why you think retail cannabis stores should be allowed or not allowed in Meaford. You can fill out an online survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/MeafordCannabisRetail, or fill out a hardcopy at the Municipal Office (21 Trowbridge Street West), the Meaford Public Library (15 Trowbridge Street West) or Meaford Hall (12 Nelson Street East) by Monday, December 17th.
