Just before 3 am yesterday morning, emergency crews responded to a structure fire on Highway 6 near Williamsford in the Township of Chatsworth. Smoke alarms alerted the occupants who, together with the family pet dog, were able to exit the family home safely. A 46-year old male and a 10-year old girl attended hospital as a precaution. Secondary schools in Bluewater District School Board are kicking off 2018 by extending an early invitation to students who will soon be entering Grade 9 for the first time. Information nights are being held for current Grade 7 and 8 students and their parents to learn about the wide variety of available programs and career pathway options, course selection, graduation requirements, extracurricular activities, and other important resources to ensure a successful transition from elementary to secondary school.  School staff will be available to guide families through the registration process, and to offer tours that showcase the broad spectrum of learning facilities and vibrant culture that are unique to Bluewater District School Board secondary schools. The schedule of upcoming secondary information nights includes Owen Sound District, today, 700 to 8:30 pm and Young Women Try the Trades: 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (register ahead at mark_klunder@bwdsb.on.ca. In the NHL, David Pastrnak and Ryan Spooner each scored an early goal, Tuukka Rask stopped 21 shots and the Boston Bruins beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-1 last night.

And Anaheim beat Pittsburgh 5-3.

Tonight two Canadian teams are in action as Toronto is at Philadelphia (7:00 pm) and Ottawa is at home to St. Louis (7:30).

And locally, the Meaford Knights host Temiscaming at 7:30.
