For the second year, the Municipality of Meaford will be hosting part of the Canadian Armed Forces Ardent Defender Exercise in partnership with the 4th Canadian Division Training Centre and local emergency service organizations, October 9th and 10th with participants from over 20 nations around the world. While the Canadian Armed Forces will be simulating a threat scenario at the water plant, Municipal staff and local partners including Grey County EMS, the Meaford Hospital, Grey County Social Services, and Town of the Blue Mountains will be testing out its Emergency Management Plan in a simulated water emergency. The exercise will be taking place October 9th at Meaford Hall and October 10th at the Meaford Water Treatment Plant. Throughout the exercise, residents near the training areas may hear loud blasts and explosions between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm Residents may also see military personnel, vehicles and equipment and , emergency services personnel.

A portion of the Market Square parking lot will be closed, Wednesday October 9th as part of the Ardent Defender Training Exercise. Alternate parking is available off Nelson Street and Trowbridge Street in municipal lots. October 10th, Grandview Drive will be Closed in front of the Water Treatment Plant from 7 am to 9 pm, allowing local traffic Only from Ford Ave. and Helen St. to the Water Treatment Plant. There will be a temporary road closure in Collingwood on Robinson Street from Manning Ave to Collins Street on Wednesday, October 9 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm due to water service repair.

In baseball, the New York Yankees were fueled to a 5-1 victory over Minnesota last night to finish yet another sweep of the Twins and advance to the AL Championship Series.
A three-run homer lifted the wild-card Washington Nationals to a 6-1 victory over the league-best Los Angeles Dodgers, forcing a deciding Game 5 in their NL Division Series.
The St. Louis Cardinals got a tying single in the eighth inning and a winning sacrifice fly in the 10th to beat the Atlanta Braves 5-4 and see a deciding Game 5 of the NL Division Series.
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Houston Astros 10-3 which cut their AL Division Series deficit to 2-1.
Tonight, Houston is at Tampa Bay (7:07 pm)

In the Rugby World Cup, action resumes this morning as Canada takes on South Africa.

In tennis, Denis Shapovalov defeated Frances Tiafoe 6-4, 6-2 at the Shanghai Masters yesterday, setting up a second-round encounter with defending champion Novak Djokovic.

In the NHL, two games with Alex Pietrangelo scoring the winner in the third period as the St. Louis Blues defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 last night.
And a goal 2:08 into overtime lifted Columbus to a 4-3 win over Buffalo.
Tonight the New York Islanders host Edmonton, Winnipeg is at Pittsburgh (both games 7:00 pm) and LA is at Calgary (9:00 pm)
