TransCanada Energy (TCE) proposes to construct a hydroelectric pump storage plant on the Canadian Army’s 4th Canadian Division Training Centre. A public information meeting about the impact of the proposed plant is organized, hosted, and presented by Save Georgian Bay Group, Saturday, October 12th from 11 am until 1 pm at the Meaford & St. Vincent Community Centre. The plant will pump water from Georgian Bay to a height of 150 meters up the Niagara Escarpment to a man‐made reservoir. The plant will then release the water back down the escarpment through turbines into Georgian Bay to produce electricity. Organizers warn of a challenge to the fish population and the displacement of birds and wildlife that live along and near the shoreline due to a huge concrete intake/outfall, and three breakwaters extending from and parallel to the shoreline. In addition to attending the October 12th information session, Save Georgian Bay organizers are calling on concerned residents to contact elected representatives to express those concerns.
