Simcoe-Grey’s federal candidates will debate this week at an event focused on environmental issues. The Collingwood Climate Action team is hosting the event, one of 100 across Canada. The Collingwood debate takes place Thursday, Oct. 3rd from 7 pm to 9 pm at the Collingwood Leisure Time Club. You can reserve a ticket to the event online through Collingwood Today.

The scarecrows have invaded downtown Meaford, Station Hill, and for the first time, Bognor. Judging of scarecrow displays begins today (October 1st). The ever-popular parade, festival, and apple pie contest are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4th… the parade on Sykes Street at 6 pm… the festival at Rotary Harbour Pavilion to follow, and winning apple pies to be auctioned off during the festival.

There will be a temporary road closure on Minnesota Street from Ontario Street to Hume Street, Collingwood today (Tuesday, October 1st) at 7:30 am to Wednesday, October 2nd at 4:00 pm due to new sewer installation. Signage will be in place. As well, there will be a temporary road closure on St. Paul Street from Market Lane to Fourth Street East on Wednesday, October 2nd from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm due to water service repair.

A series of Town Hall meetings are being held across Grey-Bruce to hear about the current opioid situation. Presented by the Community Drug and Alcohol Strategy, the public will have an opportunity to rotate from station to station to speak directly with, to ask questions of, and engage in discussion with police, EMS, Public Health and Mental Health and Addiction Services. No registration is needed; light refreshment will be served. Tonight, (Tuesday, October 1st) 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Owen Sound City Hall Council Chambers, 808 2nd Ave. E., Owen Sound.

Baseball action resuming as Milwaukee is at Washington, tonight in the NL Wild Card Game at in Nationals Park. Game time, 8:08 pm.
Wednesday, Tampa Bay will be at Oakland in their first match for the AL West playoffs.

Bianca Andreescu had two reasons to smile today.The Canadian tennis star won her first match since winning the U-S Open, September 7th and also found out she has secured a spot in the W-T-A Tour Finals later next month. Andreescu beat Aliaksandra
Sasnovich of Belarus 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 in the first round of the China Open today.

Canada’s Denis Shapovalov will play Croatia’s Miomir Kecmanovic in first-round action at the Japan Open early this morning.Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ontario won the only previous meeting between the players. Shapovalov came into the tournament ranked No. 32 while Kecmanovic is 51st.
