After an incident last week involving a racist slur spray-painted on a garage and car in Collingwood, one resident is shedding light on another similar occurrence. Prabha Mattappally said she and her husband drove past a sign in August and noticed the letters on both sides of the sign had been re-arranged to spell both racist and homophobic slurs. Mattappally said she ripped down the letters before taking a photo. She called police to report the incident and later reached out to the adjacent businesses to let them know what she found. OPP are continuing both investigations. Anyone with information is asked to contact Collingwood/The Blue Mountains OPP at (705) 445-4321 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

Fall hydrant flushing has begun on Cedar Street, Collingwood and will be flushing over the next couple of days. Fall hydrant flushing began on Maple Street, Beech Street, & Birch Street last week. If tap water is used during flushing, it could be discoloured or contain sediment. If you encounter discolored water, shut the water off and wait for about 1 hour, then check for clarity by running cold water for a few minutes. In some cases, you may experience slight discoloration for a few hours. This discoloration only affects the appearance of the water; it does not affect the taste or water quality.
