Nominations are now open for this year’s Order and Companion to the Order of Collingwood. The annual award seeks to recognize volunteerism within the community, on individuals improving social, well-being, natural or cultural environment, or recreational character of the town of Collingwood. Nominees do not need to be a Collingwood resident for the Order but must volunteer within the town with a primary benefit of the Collingwood community continuously over two years or more (except for youth volunteers) and not have been paid for their participation or service. Nomination forms can be picked up at the town hall office or on the town website. The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 1st at 4:30 pm.

October 2nd at 12:10 pm, Grey Bruce OPP were called to Main Street East in Dundalk for a 19-year-old male who had fallen from a height, while in a work truck. Grey County Paramedics responded to the incident. The male was found with vital signs absent and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification of the deceased is being withheld until next of kin are notified. Anyone with information that may help Grey Bruce OPP with this investigation, is asked to call 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS)

In baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals overcame shaky defence and a wild finish to extend Atlanta’s post-season misery, holding off the Braves 7-6 in Game 1 of the NL Division Series last night.
The Los Angeles Dodgers capitalized on mistakes to beat the Washington Nationals 6-0 in Game 1 of their NL Division Series last night.

This afternoon, Tampa Bay is at Houston (2:05 pm), Atlanta hosts St Louis (4:37 pm), the New York Yankees are at home to Minnesota (7:07 pm) and the LA Dodgers host Washington (9:37 pm).

Canada’s Bianca Andreescu has won her 17th match in a row. The world No. 6 from Mississauga, Ontario, downed American Jennifer Brady 6-1, 6-3 in the third round of the China Open. The win sets up a showdown between Andreescu, and world No. 4 Naomi Osaka of Japan in the quarterfinals.

In the Rugby World Cup, Ireland rebounded from its jolting loss to Japan by defeating winless Russia 35-0 yesterday.
Fiji boosted its flagging Rugby World Cup campaign with seven tries and scintillating attacking rugby in a 45-10 win against Georgia.
Today, South Africa takes on Italy.

In the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 last night in the teams’ opener.
The New York Rangers beat Winnipeg 6-4.
Calgary lost to Colorado 5-3.
Tonight, Toronto is at Columbus and New Jersey hosts Winnipeg (both games 7:00pm).
