The Meaford Museum’s new exhibit is a little farther from home than usual as Meaford Museum was chosen to be among the 8 cultural institutions to have an exhibit on display at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Grand Hall in Toronto. The Meaford Museum chose to showcase its commemorative porcelain collection that depicts the Municipality’s history… pieces with depictions of local buildings and commemoration of special events in Meaford. The displays is in place until the end of July. The Legislative Assembly is at 191-111 Wellesley Street West in Toronto. At a recent Town of the Blue Mountains Council meeting, a motion was put forward by Deputy Mayor Odette Bartnicki and approved unanimously by Council to direct staff to promote a voluntary ban on the use of single-use plastic bags, plastic straws and stir sticks effective July 1st, 2019 through the reduction and future elimination of single-use plastic bags, straws, stir sticks and water bottles, and encourage all businesses, community members and visitors to avoid the use of those products whenever possible. The motion also directs staff to work through a public consultation process to develop a plan for inclusion in the 2020 budget to reduce and/or eliminate single-use plastics by July 2020.
