Loaders and graders took over the waterfront in Wasaga Beach, Monday morning. A section of road and beach were closed to the public as crews got to work cleaning up after high winds and waves flooded the roadway. Beach Drive and the beach area were reopened by Monday afternoon. Town officials say to expect the road to continue to flood on windy and wavy days as long as high water levels persist. Water levels are also causing erosion issues along some areas of the shoreline in the Municipality of Meaford. Even where things may look stable, they could be compromised from underneath due to the waves and high water. The Municipality of Meaford advises extra care along Meaford’s waterfront and stay back from the shore line in eroded areas.

High water in Georgian Bay has caused the closure of some of Collingwood’s trails that run close to the shore. The walking/biking trail on the west end of Sunset Point is closed and will remain closed while the high water remains. Water has risen from the creek at the very west end of the trail and is flowing across a paved section of the trail. Further east the stone dust pathway winding along the waterfront is completely submerged. Blue Shores trail at Collingwood’s east end has also been affected by high water. As staff continue to monitor the area weekly, Hens and Chickens trail has been closed all season after high water took out a boardwalk bridge.
You can bypass the closed section of Sunset Point by staying to the sidewalk and roadside path along Huron Street and using Niagara Street to St. Lawrence Street to meet up with the trail at Sunset Point beach area.
