The Town of Blue Mountain works department is asking for the public’s assistance to help improve the functionality of the Thornbury Wastewater Treatment Plant to stop flushing disposable wipes as these rags that are often labelled as ‘disposable’ or ‘flushable,’ but are not flushable at all. These non-flushable wipes can block lines and clog equipment, often resulting in increased maintenance and repair costs. The Blue Mountains town council will be looking at preparing an official communication piece from the town, specifically to try to get the message out to visitors and non-residents who may not be aware of the issue.

The former deputy mayor of the Town of Blue Mountains is taking on a new role in local government. Gail Ardiel was sworn in as the provincial appointee of the Blue Mountains Police Services Board, Feb. 12 at the police board’s regular meeting held at the Town of Blue Mountains’ Town Hall. Ardiel was nominated and screened for the position at the provincial level. The Blue Mountains Police Services Board’s next meeting will take place on April 8 and is open to the public. A reminder from the Municipality of Meaford that dog tags are used in the event that a licensed dog is found at-large. Licencing fees also support initiatives such as feeding and sheltering of stray dogs; providing emergency medical care for sick/injured stray dogs; immunization control and enforcement; enforcement of the Dog Owner’s Liability Act; long term pounding/sheltering of unclaimed dogs and administration. Tags are available before March 31st for a discounted rate.

In the NHL, the Dallas Stars beat Toronto last night as the Leafs suffered their fourth loss in their last six games,Tampa Bay picked up their ninth straight victory, winning 3-1 over Edmonton.Ottawa defeated Arizona 3-2.And Calgary shut-out Anaheim 6-0.
Four games tonight with Montreal at Pittsburgh, New Jersey travels to Carolina, Columbus is at home to the New York Rangers and San Jose visits Winnipeg (all 7:00 pm)

In tennis, Canada’s Vasek Pospisil couldn’t keep his run of upsets going.Thursday at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic beat Pospisil 6-4, 7-6 (7) in the second round of the ATP Tour 500 indoor hardcourt event.

In the NBA, it’s the All-Star Game with Team LeBron against Team Giannis, Sunday night in Chicago.

Locally, the Meaford Knights won at home against the South Muskoka Shield for their final regular at-home game with a 6-3 score.The Knights face the Shield again Saturday.
