Getting Into In-Season Fruits and Vegetables

And how are you enjoying summer and all the in-season fruits and vegetables? While we have to wait a little bit longer for this season’s apples, between imported and local fruit, I’m so far enjoying strawberries and blueberries in-hand and with my breakfast cereal… still in need of some nectarines in my shopping basket. But I have to admit of strawberries and blueberries, blueberries have a sight lead for me when it comes to preference… into July before the blueberries are not so much imported, looking at the ‘harvest Ontario’ website. One dessert I will have to have with fresh strawberries… strawberry shortcake… mmm hmm… with some strawberry shortcake socials popping up soon? And while I’ve never acquired a taste for fresh pears, apparently we should be seeing fresh pears in August. And if you’ve never tried this, we had pear trees when I was younger and (in lieu of apples) pear pie my mother baked… absolutely delicious… nothing like Ontario summers and in-season fruits and vegetables, is there?
