1756 – Britain declared war on France, beginning the French and Indian War, eventually leading to France’s losing Canada following the battle on the Plains of Abraham in 1759.

1875 – The first Kentucky Derby was run at Louisville, Kentucky.

1971 – The musical “Godspell” opened in New York City and ran for 2,124 performances.

1993 – Barry Manilow appeared on the CBS-TV’s “Murphy Brown”.

1999 – Alex Trebek received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
